STUDY THE BEHAVIOUR OF HIGH TEMPERATURE HOT CORROSION ON UNCOATED
AND COATED BOILER STEEL by Arun Shah
Abstract
Degradation of material at high temperature is a serious problem in several high tech industries. Now a days hot corrosion is a serious problem in power generation equipment, gas turbines and chemical plants which ultimately lead to the failure of the metallic components. In the present study, 316L, boiler steel recently being used in thermal power plant, has been investigated for its high temperature oxidation and hot corrosion behavior. The coatings AlCrN and TiAlN were deposited on the surface of specimen by D.C magnetron sputtering of physical vapour deposition technique of. The uncoated as well as coated 316L samples were subjected to cyclic high temperature oxidation in air at 900°C and hot corrosion in molten salt environment of Na2SO4 at 900°C, for 75 cycles. The protection obtained against hot corrosion was in the following sequence: TiAlN coated>AlCrN coated > uncoated 316L boiler steel.
